What Is Investor Matching?

Investor matching is the disciplined pairing of a company with counterparties whose mandate, cheque size, sector, geography and instrument actually fit — rather than blasting a teaser to every name in a CRM.

Fit is a mandate problem

Funds and corporates do not “like companies.” They have mandates: buyout versus growth equity versus venture capital, cheque size, geography, sector, control versus minority, ESG screens, remaining fund life. Invest Europe and ILPA language is explicit that GPs must stay inside what LPs bought. Matching is the work of not wasting a NDA and a week on a house that cannot transact.

On a sale, the same logic applies to financial buyers versus strategic buyers versus family offices. On a raise, it is institutional versus angel versus strategic investor.

What you match from

A useful match needs a company profile that is true: earnings quality, growth, concentration, capital structure, geography, and what the owner actually wants (exit, minority, debt). That profile is why Dazur puts matching after STRUCTURE and VALUATION in the smart-room chain, not before.

Illustration (labeled)

An industrial with €4m EBITDA, 1.0× net debt, and a founder who will not give control is not a buyout process. It might be growth equity or a minority recap. Sending it to ten LBO funds produces polite passes and a rumour that “the process is dead.” Matching would have started with three growth names and a lender.

Common mistakes

Confusing a logo list with a mandate list. Matching on sector tags only. Running matching before the numbers can survive a first call. Letting a strategic into a competitive data set because they “might invest.”

Limitations

Matching cannot create a buyer where the company is not investable. It also cannot override IC politics. Human relationships still close deals; they should not be the only filter.

Dazur Perspective

Dazur’s matching sits on the structured company layer so the profile shown to a PE fund, a lender or a strategic is the same object used for valuation — not a custom teaser that drifted from the financials. That is MATCHING in DATA → STRUCTURE → INTELLIGENCE → VALUATION → MATCHING → DUE DILIGENCE → DECISION.
